Who is the course for: 
This course is designed for those who are involved in community development, either in a paid or voluntary capacity, and who are concerned that difficulties with writing skills may be holding them back.  It would also benefit those who are interested in community issues, but are not actively involved, and would like to brush up on their reading and writing.


Outline of course content:
This course covers:
• Community development
• Committee skills – writing agendas, taking minutes, roles and responsibilities of committee members
• Writing letters and funding applications
• Improving self-confidence and communication
• Listening skills
• Behavioural styles
• Assertiveness


Course aims:
The course aims to increase participants’ knowledge of community development while improving their written and spoken communication skills. 


Possible progression routes:
At the end of the course participants will be offered the opportunity to explore what UPC programmes would be of interest to them.
