Last chance to snap up free UPC courses Print E-mail
We’re offering you the chance to brighten up your summer with one of our free courses.  This is the last time you’ll be able to access these courses free of charge (funded by DEL) before our funding contract ends at the end of August.  Ordinarily these courses would cost approximately £250 per person.


Women and Communication
This course is designed for women who want to explore what is meant by ‘communication’ and who would like to communicate more assertively.  It is a particularly useful course for those who wish to improve their confidence.
This course is accredited at OCN Level 2.

Friday 1 & 8 August, 10am – 4pm, UPC, 1 Lower Crescent, Belfast.   


Getting to Grips with the Media
This course provides participants with an understanding of how to develop an effective publicity strategy for an organisation.  It will enable participants to create publicity materials, write press releases and have a good understanding of key media outlets.
This course is accredited at OCN Level 2.

Thursday 14 & Friday 15 August, 10am – 4pm, UPC, 1 Lower Crescent, Belfast. 


We also have enough spaces left to accommodate a few groups who would like to complete the following courses.  If your group is interested contact the College now as courses must be completed by the end of August. 

Introduction to Community Relations
This course is suitable for anyone interested in exploring key issues in relation to identity, belonging and division in Northern Ireland Society at an introductory level.

Understanding Community Relations
This course offers an opportunity to study key Community Relations themes such as the nature of divisions in our society.

Remembering the Ulster Workers' Council Strike Print E-mail
People’s History Initiative participants recently attended a lecture by Paul Donnelly, UPC Lecturer inLecturer Paul Donnelly with some of the participants Adult and Community Education, on the Ulster Workers’ Council Strike.

This was the final lecture in a series organised by the UPC’s People’s History Initiative and the School of Education at Queen’s University Belfast focusing on key events that participants wanted to investigate further.

 
New free courses now available Print E-mail

The Ulster People’s College Spring Calendar of Training Courses has just been released and now all our courses can be booked online.

UPC Programmes focus on community development to enable social and economic regeneration and on political development to enable real democracy and expression of citizenship.

The courses will be held at the UPC (1 Lower Crescent, Belfast, BT7 1NR) but if there is substantial demand we will run additional courses in other locations.

The courses are open to everyone and are delivered free of charge. To book a place on any of the courses visit the course booking link.

UPC Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 13th February 2008 Print E-mail

 

The Ulster People's College's Annual General Meeting for the year 2006 - 2007 will be held at the College on Wednesday 13th February 2008 at 11.30 am and will be followed by lunch.

The main speaker at the Annual General Meeting  will be Claire Hackett, Co-ordinator, Dúchas Living History Project. Dúchas is the Falls Road Community Council's oral history archive, which records the experience of the conflict in West Belfast. The idea for the Dúchas archive took root during the mid 1990's when the organisation began discussions on the significance of history, memory and peace building. Claire Hackett is chair of the storytelling subgroup of Healing Through Remembering, a broad based organisation which focuses on dealing with the past relating to the conflict. Clare will be addressing the issue of dealing with the legacy of the past in our society.

How much do you know about Peace lll funding? Print E-mail
Do you want to know more about Peace III funding?  Do you want to increase your chances of obtaining funding?

If so, the Ulster People’s College has the course for you.

We are offering groups the opportunity to take part in a special funding course designed to improve their ability to complete Peace III application forms and increase their understanding about the related policy context and knowledge about the programme.

The course is free of charge and accredited to OCN Level 2.

      Dates: Monday 7 & 14 April
      Time: 10am – 4pm
