Cockletown - a short history Print E-mail

Recently a group from Greater Greencastle Community Empowerment Partnership produced a booklet on the Cockletown area, as part of the People’s History course they undertook with the UPC.

UPC tutor Jason Brannigan worked with the group over several months to research and document the history of the Greencastle area and to write ‘A short history of Cockletown – the Greencastle area, the Blitz, the post war years and 1970s’.Karen McCartney (UPC) and Seamus Kelly (Greater Greencastle CEP) with the 'Cockletown' booklet

The booklet takes the reader from the establishment of Greencastle’s first mill in the 18th century to the air raids of the second world war and the building of the M2 in 1971.

UPC Lecturer Karen McCartney explains, “This was the first group to produce a booklet in conjunction with the People’s History Initiative.  They put a great deal of hard work and effort into producing the booklet.  It has received significant praise and is an excellent resource for this community.”
