Education for Interface
The Ulster People's College has been funded by Community Foundation Northern Ireland and Community Relations Council to work with interface communities and ethnic minority communities with the aim of building capacity within communities and promoting peace building and better relations.
In conjunction with Erik Cownie from Belfast Interface Project’s Conflict Transformation Support project we would like to identify and work with interface groups.
We aim to design and deliver specific education programmes which focus on addressing the social, economic and political issues which affect interface communities. The types of courses that will be available will include the following:
- Communication and Negotiation : Managing Conflict and Negotiations
- Fundraising – accessing and management of funding
- Committee skills development – running your group, constitutions.
- Facilitation Skills – how to work with groups and prepare and deliver sessions
- Understanding Communities and Community Development.
- Introduction to and Understanding Community Relations
- Media Skills Training and Community Publicity Skills – press releases and media interviews.
The above courses are accredited through the National Open College Network.
Added to this, there is scope to organise a series of one off workshops and discussions on contemporary issues as highlighted by interface groups. Tailor-made development sessions may also be developed with a view to developing Strategic Plans for specific groups as required. These sessions will help groups to develop their strategic direction for the future in a changing environment.
All of the above courses and sessions are available free of charge.
The Ulster Peoples College also provides a wide variety of other community development and community relations courses.
If you or any of the interface groups you are working with, would like to find out more and organise some training on any of these issues, please contact the following:
