The UPC’s People’s History Initiative has won a highly commended STAR (Showcasing Teamwork, Awarding Recognition) Award by AONTAS, the Irish National Association of Adult Education.  The awards were presented at a ceremony in Dublin Castle on 4 February by RTE Sports Presenter Michael O’Muircheartaigh.

Over 130 projects throughout Ireland were nominated for the prestigious awards.  The People’s History Initiative was praised for the emphasis it placed on teamwork and partnership and how the project was developed around the real needs of adult learners.

The People’s History Initiative began in 1999 and harnesses people’s interests and passion in history to engage them in a process of adult education in which their experiences and stories are central to the learning process.
