Who is this course for: 
This course suits community groups and individuals who would like to tell the story of their community in photographs and written memories and present this in exhibition or book form.

 

 

Outline of course content:
This course covers:
• Key events which have shaped the history of their community
• Key events which have shaped the history of Northern Ireland and Ireland
• Research methods – studying old photographs and newspapers, interviewing people and collecting stories, and using street directories
• Presenting their history in exhibition or book format
 
Course aims: 
The course aims to explore the history of the participant’s community in the context of key historical events which have shaped the history of Northern Ireland and Ireland.  Participants learn research skills to find out about the past. They learn how to present the story of their community in exhibition or book form and use past experiences to help future plans when appropriate.
  
Possible progression routes: 
At the end of the course participants will be offered the opportunity to explore what UPC programmes would be of interest to them. A group at the launch of their exhibition

• Information on community history collected by participants during the course
