This course is suitable for individuals, groups, service providers, employers and organisations from all sectors who are interested in diversity issues and a shared future.
Outline of course content:
This course covers:
• What is meant by the terms ‘race’, ‘racism’ and ‘ethnicity’
• Issues faced by both immigrants and host communities
• Understanding what is meant by terms such as ‘refugee’, ‘asylum seeker’ and ‘migrant worker’
• The legal and policy framework within which race and diversity issues are addressed
Course aims:
The course aims to explore concepts of race and ethnicity to investigate current issues and implications for the future.
Possible progression routes:
At the end of the course participants will be offered the opportunity to explore what UPC programmes would be of interest to them. Many participants progress to OCN Level 1 Introduction to Community Relations, OCN Level 2 People’s History, OCN Level 2 Understanding Community Relations or OCN Level 3 in Community Relations.
